While still a fine film and a cornerstone of Chaplin's catalogue and comedy's catalogue in general, this is NOT the original version of The Gold Rush. This is the butchered and severely shortened rerelease that Chaplin created in 1942 by removing all title cards, shortening some scenes that shouldn't have been, and narrating, somewhat insultingly, over top of the film that did remain.
